Popular Internet Links for Astronomy (Update 10/12)

Postby fillerupmac » June 24th, 2007, 6:53 am

I thought I would start a handy thread for popular astronomy links. Please feel free to add to this, when I have time, I'll do some editing, and keep the links in the first message, for simplicity...

Thanks for everyone that posted these links. We are working on new member packets and this will help with the original list that probably should be tested.

List of most astro software...

I just ran across this fairly complete list of software and added it to the list above...

Unfortunately, the HTML format is not allowed as an attachment through this Forum so; attached is a ".txt" (a.k.a. ASCII) file that you must change into an HTML file.

When you click on the "Download" button, another window will appear. You must show your machine where to save the ".txt" file. Once it is saved (wherever you want on your machine)*; go there and change/rename ".txt" suffix to ".htm" on the filename.

Then load it onto your favorite browser. (use file:///C:/{path} to get to the renamed file). * You may want to use a short {path} when saving; to reduce typing a long {path} chain.

As always, there is a catch: I am not responsible for any content on any website(s) which I do not personally own. I have visited all of these sites and found nothing objectionable when I did so - but the World Wide Web is always in a state of flux, and they may have changed since I visited them - again, this is NOT under my control. If the site offends you, I am sorry, but only you can decide that. You have been warned.
Attachments
WWW_Astronomy_list.txt
Change the ".txt" to ".htm" - then load into any HTML browser.

Comets

I added the two comet links today. The first also includes some history about each comet. The second is a good resource to see what is currently visible, comet wise!

Enjoy!

A couple new links were added to the links thread.

One thing that is missing is some good apps for the new ipod/ipad/droid/etc machines

How about some suggestions? Please specify for what device, and I'll get them added to the list.

Popular Internet Links for Astronomy (Update 11/10)

Postby cswisher » March 7th, 2011, 11:48 pm

FYI, there is a page on the website called "Astronomy Links" that has
most, if not all these links... and the ability for people to add
their own for review. You might want to add the ones you put in the
forums on the website as well...

Regards,
Cindi
