I like all three sites in the National Foerst Area northwest of Lake George. Tarryall Meadows seems to be the most popular - maybe because it is fenced, and there is less traffic.
Wolf's Run is 2nd, because it offers slightly better southern horizon views if you get down on the west end.
I have only had one good excursion out east, so far....

Starlight Meadows
Beautiful site. Gets prettier everytime we visit.
The folks that have NOT visited do not know what they are missing.
Well worth the easy two hour drive to the site.

Well, after doing the scout star party this past weekend at Lake George I am hereby announcing that I'm officially jealous of Ginger's residence!
The skies in that area are quite awesome.
I continue to be amazed at the overwhelming amount of objects you can see when not so light polluted!
Also, Hannah "now" wants to go to Gardner after what she experienced at Lake George.
Now *that* is what I call "leaving and impression".

Ah but the skies around Lake George _ARE_ quite light polluted! Wasn't so bad 10 years ago... but the Denver/Colo Springs/Pueblo light dome increases a little bit more each year ;(
Now if you want truly BLACK skies, there's a place called Starlight Meadows, owned by uh, our club, down in Gardner!
