Another Addition to My List of "Geek" Activities

Postby Nyarlathotep » September 5th, 2010, 8:11 am

Astronomy has interested me since I was a child. A few years ago, I bought an Orion SpaceProbe 130EQ from a friend, but since I spent more time looking for things than at them, and that the scope was heavy and bulky, it ended up collecting dust.

I recently had a renewed interest, so I looked for the most portable scope with a GOTO mount I could find (and within a price range my wife would agree to), so I decided on the Celestron NexStar 4SE. I've spent a couple of days getting familiar with the scope, and hopefully tonight I'll be able to actually use it (too cloudy last night).

I hope to meet some of you soon (I'll post other topics in the appropriate forums).

Art, I've been looking through the CN NexStar forums; hopefully I'll find some good alignment info for my scope. I would also like to know if others have been successful with a dSLR connected to the 4 SE, especially since that is one of its advertised capabilities.

Gene - I have a NexStar 8i. It's a bit older than what you own, but some of the alignment tips I've received over the years might work with yours as well. I'd be happy to help out at the next star party.

One good site to check out is the NexStar Resource site:
