Vortex Planetarium (android)
Discovered this app last night. Pretty cool. Great looking skies, like Starry Night. As you zoom in, galaxy structure is displayed, or open clusters, etc. Very nice. Easy to get info on objects, with wiki links as well.
GPS and accelerometer capability.
Makes Google sky look like a toy in comparison.
Not free, but I'll give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
ipad users, only available for android - sorry....

Re: Vortex Planetarium (android)
Been communicating with the author of this software, and he has been very receptive to ideas.
1. Scaled planets down in size
2. Provided a user adjustable font setting (YAYYY!!!) so that you may use larger font sizes if you prefer - boy is this sweet!
Pretty good software.

Vortex Planetarium (android)
Took me awhile to figure out how to update it on the Galaxy Tab but
really like being able to choose the larger text size!!! Thanks for
asking for that! I haven't tried it outside in night mode yet.

I have the app. Its possible that it is my phone, but I have some question as to the pointing accuracy. Google Sky Map is right on, but stars are not where they are suppose to be in Vortex no matter what location settings I use.

I tried again another night, and made sure I was far away from vehicles etc - anything major metallic. Pointing accuracy was spot on!
