From Colorado Springs:

Short Route - US24 to Lake George. Just west of Lake George, Take CR77 North 33.4 miles to Rock Creek (CR39). North on Rock Creek 3.25 miles to Forest Rd 131. There should be a "Fuelwood Cutting Area" sign at FR131. West on 131 into RMSS Site.

Long Route - US24 to Hartsel. Just past Hartsel, Colo 9 North to Intersection US285. Right (North) on US285, through Fairplay to Jefferson. Right on Tarryall Road (CR77) 8 miles to Rock Creek (CR39). North on Rock Creek 3.25 miles to Forest Rd 131. There should be a "Fuelwood Cutting Area" sign at FR131. West on 131 into RMSS Site. This route adds approximately 70 miles to the trip, roads in good shape all the way.

Directions from the Denver metro area (79-80 miles from both I-25 & I-70 and I-25 & West C-470 interchanges).

Take US 285 out of Denver, over Kenosha Pass. Go approx. 3.5 miles over the pass to CR 56, the Lost Park Road. Go 5.0 miles to the intersection on the right with CR 39. Go right 1.9 miles to a "Fuelwood area" sign (no FR 131 sign on this side of the intersection). Go right approx 0.7 miles to the site, keep right of the other "Fuelwood Cutting Area" sign.

Many maps, and Navigation Systems may try to use old road into RMSS Site (Forest Road 131 FROM CR77) THIS ROAD IS NOT ACCESSIBLE!!

About half of CR77 from Lake George is in POOR condition. There probably will be road construction and possible delays. The section of CR77 from Jefferson to Rock Creek Road is new and excellent!
